Risk Assessment

Edmund Services attaches paramount importance to the health and hygiene implications of all services and systems within our client's premises. Our procedures encompass all aspects of the Health and Safety Executives guidelines.

The approved Code of Practice makes employers and managers responsible for identifying and assessing sources of risk, preparing a scheme for prevention or control, implementing and managing precautions and the keeping of records.

We are able to provide a comprehensive risk audit, which would specialise in identifying risks with advice on the best methods of prevention or control and checking of management responsibility and records. This risk audit would also include independent analysis and assessment of all water services for microbiological contamination.

We arrange to supply and take swabs for microbiological analysis of any contamination of ductwork and this will include identification for the growth of aerobic bacteria.

All tasks undertaken by employees of the company are risk assessed in accordance with the Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1992. From the risk assessment, control measures are identified and safe systems of work developed and maintained.

All hazardous substances, including refrigerants are assessed under The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 1988 and in accordance with HS (G) 97. Procedures are then put into place for the safe use, handling, storage, maintenance and transportation of articles and substances.

The maintenance of air conditioning and industrial cooling systems and hot and cold water services is performed strictly in accordance with HS(G)70 or L8. The control of Legionellosis including Legionnaires disease.

The approved Code of Practice (Safety of Pressure Systems) relating to The Pressure Systems and Transportable Gas Containers Regulations 1989 is strictly adhered to ensuring pressure systems remain safe.

The nature of our business involves the manual handing of equipment and materials. In this respect assessments are performed under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and where reasonably practicable, lifting aids and devices employed. Employees are given training in manual handling techniques and the HSE publication 'Getting to grips with Manual Handling'; applied.

All electrical work and installations is to be in accordance with The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, HS(G)85 Electricity at Work, safe working practice and the Seventeenth Edition Regulations for Electrical Installations.

All portable electrical appliances will be regularly PAT tested and certified as detailed in PM32 guidance note, the Safe Use of Portable Electrical Apparatus.

Waste Disposal

We shall, at all times keep the client's site free from all surplus materials, rubbish and debris arising from the execution of work. All rubbish shall be removed from site at regular intervals and be compliant with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Waste Management the Duty of Care Code of Practice. A copy of all waste disposal notices/notes issued in connection with work shall be sent to the client.
